I’m so excited to announce that the long awaited Paleo Mom Community is now open for business and I am one of the moderators. Don’t let the name throw you off – it isn’t all about parenting and kids.
If you are a regular reader of the blog, you know that I refer to the work of Sarah Ballantyne (also known as The Paleo Mom) often. When I first turned to the paleo diet last year as part of a management strategy for my Crohn’s disease and then discovered that I should perhaps modify that further due to the autoimmune component of the disease for best results, it was her work that I found being referenced every where I turned. At first I shied away, thinking what could I possibly learn from “just a mom”?
Silly me; I should have known better. Though being a mom to her two daughters is a huge part of Sarah’s identity and purpose in life, I now also know that she has some serious credentials and is wicked smart (just like my own mom!).
Sarah has a doctorate degree in medical biophysics and was a medical researcher before becoming a full time mom. She has also struggled personally with autoimmune conditions and used her medical background and research skills to understand why and how the paleo diet can help put autoimmune conditions into remission. In addition to her website and popular podcast (a regular on my playlist!), she recently released the amazing book The Paleo Approach: Reverse Autoimmune Disease and Heal Your Body. This is the book I wish I’d had when I started this journey and now recommend it to everyone I know who suffers from one of the over 300 known or suspected autoimmune disorders.
And now she has started this wonderful new community resource! I was honored when her staff selected me to be one of the moderators. You’ll find me hanging out in various places within the community, including all of the food and cooking related boards (of course!) and the boards related to digestive conditions and specifically inflammatory bowel diseases. My user name is “gutsybynature” and you’ll recognize my goofy picture at the White House kitchen garden as my avatar. I hope that you will join me there and help spread the good word!
