Apple Crumble (AIP, Paleo)

Whether you call it a crisp or a crumble, or a lazy person's version of apple pie, I guarantee you will also call it delicious. Your guests won't believe that it is gluten and dairy free!

Serves: 4-6 servings
  • 3 cups apples, peeled and cut into 1 inch chunks
  • Zest and juice from 1 lemon
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon cloves
  • 1 tablespoon tapioca starch
  • 1 cup cassava flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup lard
  • ⅓ cup water
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees fahrenheit.
  2. Combine apples, juice and zest from lemon, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and tapioca starch and spread in small casserole dish (1-2 quart size).
  3. In mixing bowl, combine cassava flour, baking soda, and salt. Add lard, water, and honey and mix until a thick dough forms.
  4. Crumble dough evenly over fruit.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is baked and browned.
