Description

Whether you call it a crisp or a crumble, or a lazy person’s version of apple pie, I guarantee you will also call it delicious. Your guests won’t believe that it is gluten and dairy free!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups apples, peeled and cut into 1 inch chunks
  • Zest and juice from 1 lemon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 tablespoon tapioca starch
  • 1 cup cassava flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup lard
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees fahrenheit.
  2. Combine apples, juice and zest from lemon, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and tapioca starch and spread in small casserole dish (1-2 quart size).
  3. In mixing bowl, combine cassava flour, baking soda, and salt. Add lard, water, and honey and mix until a thick dough forms.
  4. Crumble dough evenly over fruit.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is baked and browned.
